The print is built like blue-and-white china. Oversized peonies open in porcelain white against an indigo ground, and a serpent winds through them with its whole body filled in chinoiserie scrollwork, so the animal reads as painted ceramic rather than skin. The collar is cut from plain navy silk, which stops the print at the throat and keeps the neckline clean.
The back is the point of it. The collar fastens with a single knot at the nape and two long ties drop the length of the spine, moving on their own as you walk. Shoulders and back stay bare. The hem finishes in a point and is cut to work both ways: tucked into high-waisted tailoring, or left out so the point hangs.
